Getting here:
From Kota Kinabalu, head north towards Tuaran. Look out for the sign that points into the mountain road to your right hand side. The journey takes about 2 hours of mountain road driving. The park's entrance is well-marked and located by the main road.

Description:
The park headquarter is a natural must-visit place for the uninitiated tourists. After all, the road is well-marked with signs to guide you without much hassle. Only the off-beaten-track destinations like Kundasang Valley, or Kinabalu Golf Resort, or Mesilau Nature Park require a little more effort to find them. Kinabalu Park is right smack on your face.

At some 1,600 meter above sea level, the air is cool and breezy, but not as chilly as Mesilau Nature Park, and yet far from being humid in the lowland's Poring Hot Springs.

There are a few places to visit here. There is a monument that marks the inclusion of this park into the UNESCO World Heritage Site status for its biodiversity. The national park itself is superlative when it comes to describing the types of flora and fauna that can be found within its precinct.

There is also a museum and guided walks along the natural greeneries. The behemoth Mt Kinabalu can be viewed almost anywhere throughout the park. Would-be climbers will have to register at the park office and the climb commences at Timpohon Gate, some 15 minutes away by minivan.

The park also hosts a variety of mountain lodges and cabins for a decent highland getaway. For lodging information, please click here.
