Getting here:
Mesilau Nature Park is further up from Kundasang Dairy Farm and Kinabalu Golf Resort. It is located at the end of that particular mountain road. You will pass by a Sabah Park's guard house which signifies the entrance to the national park's proper compound.

Description:
At 2,000 meter above sea level, Mesilau is probably the highest point accessible by car. Although at such height, don't expect to enjoy spectacular Mt Kinabalu view because Mesilau is located very close to the mountain's foot that the view is effectively blocked by surrounding hills.

I actually visited Mesilau twice. Once, it was on a cloudy and chilly afternoon. Light sweater is necessary. The second time, I was there early in the morning and it was even more chilly.

At the entrance, there is a nice small waterfall that streams cold, fresh mountain water. The vegetation at Mesilau is considerably different than most tropical forests - the chilly climate resulted in sparsely spaced tree concentration, with a great variety of ferns and medium-height trees. It is also the entry point for hiking up Mt Kinabalu on Mesilau Trail (the more popular one climbs up the giant from Timpohon Gate near Kinabalu Park HQ).

There is a nice restaurant in this nature park. Nothing beats a nice cup of freshly-brewed Sabah tea grown in the neighboring town of Ranau after a cold and misty walk around Mesilau.

Note that accommodations are available here at Mesilau Nature Resort, operated by Sutera Sanctuary Lodges.
